Babystep # 6 Applied: Go Workout Mom
By Cindy | July 24, 2007
Here is an example of how I have incorporated movement into my day:
1. YMCA: I dedicate 30 minutes to an hour at least 3 times a week to a focused workout: treadmill, class, or other cardio machines.
2. Strength Training: I have a weight machine that has seen little use. Last week, I’ve reintroduced strength training into my schedule. My goal is to get to three days a week. Right now, I’ average one day a week. The weight machine is in our family room, so as I’m watching a show or doing things in the family room, I incorporate my three sets into the day. Sometimes I’m able to treat it as a normal workout, other times, I’m lucky to get in a few reps.
3. Child’s Play: Hide and Seek and dancing to music is a favorite at our house.
4. In Car: I do kegels and other muscle tighetening excerises as I travel.
5. Housework: Once or twice a week, I’ll do a full fledged hour of frantic/high-paced housecleaning. When I’m working a sweat moving laundry and running up and down the stairs, I feel my heart racing!
6. Neighborhood: Walking and running are a great stress reliever around our neighborhood.
I haven’t fully taken advantage of the ways in which I could be moving more. I try to park away from the stores and use stairs often, but with toddlers and strollers, the closest parking space always wins.
