Babystep #7 Applied: Take It Slow

By Cindy | July 26, 2007

I injured my hip three weeks ago and have been working hard to not overdo it. I made the mistake of thinking I could do two aerobic classes two days in a row. Ever since, my hip refused to cooperate. I knew the minute I finished the last class how foolish I was. Hence, I’ve taken it light. I finally ran a full mile yesterday and I’m feeling the hip a little bit today. So, today was a good brisk 2 mile walk. I’ll try to incorporate some weights tonight once the little ones go off to bed.

As for the body changes, I’m not sure I can wait for a monthly weigh-in. I will wait to do another body composition test for a few more weeks. I want to give those strength training routines time to do their thing!

The habits I am currently working on are water intake and focused three to four workout sessions a week. I am doing better with the minimal eight glasses of water, but I still fall short sometimes. The workout sessions are averaging about two to three times a week.

I’ve done best with small, incremental changes. This time two months ago I was not nearly as active. I’m more conscious of the food I’m eating. I started with walks, and am now running regularly.

I’m excited. I think I overcame that first hill. The one that seemed to call me into action, but I couldn’t find the strength to start. The journey has begun and I’m seeing the horizon with several more manageable hills to conquer.

How do are you taking it slow? Your suggestions will help us all in establishing more steps in this great journey!
