Basics of a Tailored Program

By Cindy | August 21, 2007

A tailored program challenges your current level of fitness. The basic elements to consider when creating a tailored program are mode, intensity, duration and frequency. Armed with the knowledge from your personal assessment, you may create a program that challenges you without exceeding your physical capabilities.

Mode is the type of exercise performed to include your cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility training.

Intensity is the difficulty with which each exercise is performed.

Duration is how long you perform your exercises.

Frequency is the amount of times you perform the exercises.

By concentrating on the basics of a tailored program, you set the stage to progress toward your fitness goals. Each element requires a set guideline based on your current level of fitness. In this 5 part series, we will focus on each element and what the recommended parameters are from a beginner to an expert.

Do you need a professional fitness trainer or can you create a program on your own? What do we need to know to do this?
