Body Clutter Mission: Why is it so hard?
By Cindy | December 18, 2007
“BabySteps and routines are the cure for clutter in your home. Body clutter, too, has a cure, and with BabySteps and routines we can live healthier, happier, longer lives.” (Cilley, 20)
What is your image of beautiful?
When I think of the word beautiful, I divide it into two categories: physical beauty and non-physical. Physical beauty does exist. I think that’s why celebrities get so much attention. There is something to be said for a body that sparkles and a face that catches people’s attention. A pretty woman is healthy and wears clothes for her body type. A man is handsome with chiseled features and muscles. The beauty of genuine emotions reflected love and happiness is found on a non-physical level. I’m really drawn to people that are open and let you into their heart. I love meeting and talking with people. I think everyone has a fascinating. A real smile and sparkle of the eye is beautiful!
Write down the list of diet schemes that you have tried and put down how you did with them and what you felt about them.
I have avoided many diet schemes. I understand nutrition and have a decent education in the field to know that “commercial” diets of many varieties are not healthy or are limiting in scope. I believe in moderation. I struggle with the proper amounts for each food group, but I much prefer to continue working at developing a healthy, well-rounded diet rather than deprive myself of major food groups. Here’s what I tried when I was younger:
TOPS (when I was in Jr. High) More set up as a support group. I would attend with my mom.
Slim Fast (off and on) always hungry after lunch, never consistent.
Next, go back to your teenage years and write down what you remember about your weight. You can reconstruct your life according to what you weighed when something big happened in your life: graduation, marriage, birth, moving, promotion, etc. If you have “weight amnesia,” then write what you can remember. Whey you have finished, try to associates areas of weight gain to what was going on in your life.
I was always told that I was “Big Boned.” I accepted it at the time. I now realize that is not the case. I fell into the trap of justifying my weight. The first time I truly remember being aware of my weight was in Jr. High. I weighed around 144. I’m 5′4″. I played sports since I was in third grade. Basketball and volleyball seasons were filled with practices lasting at least 3 hours a day.
High School Graduation: 145
End of Plebe Summer: 138 and very lean. Body fat percentage around 16-18 %.
End of Plebe Year: 155
Highest at the Academy: Summer between Sophomore and Jr. Year: 168
Graduation: 154
Marriage 155
By end of First Ship Tour: 146, Working Out was part of our Workday. I dedicated myself to running and incorporating strength training everyday.
On the way to Japan: 155, In three months, I managed to gain 9 pounds during our hotel stays and travels. We were in transit between tours. I can definitely say that eating out everyday for 3 months did not do well for my waist!
Just before Asher’s Birth: 183
2months after Asher’s Birth: 165
Just Prior to Stephanie’s Birth: 197
2 months after Stephanie’s Birth: 178
Now, 2 years after Stephanie’s Birth: 170
Do you have any health issues related to your weight? Diabetes, joint problems, foot problems, or anything else you can think of?
I do not have any health issues related to my weight. My paternal family history is filled with heart related issues of heart attack, diabetes (type 1 and 2), high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.
The questions come from the Body Clutter Journal Missions in Body Clutter: Love Your Body, Love Yourself by Marla Cilley and Leanne Ely, page 21.
Are you able to track your Weight Timeline? It’s kind of scary isn’t it? How we’re able to remember our big events and what we weighed?!

I’m so glad I found this blog (through BlogHer lines)! You’re mission is a wonderful one. FlyLady(Marla Ciley) saved my life years ago, teaching me to take care of myself and that I was valuable. Ironically, I was talking to my husband last night about how she started this amazing journey I’ve been on, putting me on the path to heal and Finally Love Myself. Anyway, I’ll be subscribing to this blog. Thanks for sharing your journey!
