Fit Couture Designs on Demand

By Cindy | October 2, 2008

Fit Couture, established by a husband and wife team, brought Amy Cerny’s vision for women’s fashion in the gym to life.  Made for comfort, style and with high quality fabrics, the Miami II top, Miami pants, Palm Beach top, and Madrid pants spark conversation with ladies at the gym and help me feel confident and enthusiastic during classes and workouts.

I am typically a t-shirt and black pants or shorts type of gal.  I know that a quality workout results from good form and intensity, not in the clothes I wear.  However, functional and stylish attire added a layer of excitement and spunk to the workout that I did not expect.  I didn’t think that clothing had such an affect on my mood.  It sounds silly, but it’s true.  I felt a distinct change of attitude from the moment I put the clothes on, headed to the car, walked up the steps of the Y and entered.  It was refreshing and addicting.

What I like about Fit Couture:

  • A wide variety of colors
  • A wide variety of styles
  • Made with Supplex, a cotton fiber blend with technology’s enhanced microfiber features
  • Feels soft, yet thick on the skin.  The fabric is high quality and not flimsy.
  • Made in the U.S.A., specifically Houston, TX (I know, it’s the Texan in me.  I just can’t help it!)
  • Different inseams are required for pants.  Finding a good fit in height is always tricky.  I like how it has been incorporated into the ordering process.
  • Standard Delivery is one cost and reasonable at $5.95 an order
  •  The story behind Fit Couture’s designing process is fascinating.  Understanding the method that Mark and Amy took to provide the best product changed my focus from cost to inspiration:

The general idea of TSS is that you want to have only one garment in production for each worker in the mod. So, for us, two operators equals two garments being worked on at a time. Only after a garment is completely finished is another started. When the last person in a line completes a garment, they move back until they reach the station that the worker preceding them is at. They take the garment in progress, “bumping” the previous employee to the start of the line where she picks up a brand new garment and gets started. (In a mod with more than two people, the bumping cascades. Each person bumps the person before them into the first person in the group starts a new garment.)–Implementing the Toyota Sewing System at Fit Couture

What I dislike about Fit Couture:

  • I am a frugal shopper.  The prices for tops range from $36-$46, pants $47-$55, shorts $31-$36, and sales are limited.  I conducted an ebay search and found no clothes available.  Amazon prices are the same as listed on Fit Couture’s site and no free shipping.  Due to the way in which the clothing is manufactured, there is not a large inventory that requires movement, so where Fit Couture is sold wholesale, the limited supply results in little markdown.  From a business perspective, this is a fantastic.  From my perspective as a consumer looking for the discounts will be difficult!

Other Considerations

  • Be cautious about the sizes and take your measurements.  Sizing doesn’t follow typical store measurements.  It’s based on actual inches and what you are familiar with in the store as a Medium is more and likely a large at Fit Couture.  Follow the guidelines for inches and ignore the letters S, M, L, XL.

Fit Couture delivers style, functionality, and an excellent product on demand.  The individual attention the garment receives guarantees a fantastic product and dedicated customer service.  Prices are steep with little expectation for discount, but what a wonderful gift to give or receive.  Here’s a perfect example of a small American Business serving the customer first to provide inspiration and designs made for women.

It’s time to hit the gym in style.  Add Fit Couture to your Birthday, Christmas and/or Goal’s Reward for you and your fitness journey!

On a final note, Mike and Amy Cerny are expecting their first baby early next year!  Congratulations.
