Housecleaning Workout Tip: Dishes

By Cindy | August 5, 2007

housecleaning.jpgDishes, dishes, dishes. Everyday they clutter the sink. After filling the dishwasher, I am always amazed that I still have a sink load of dishes I have to wash! However, there are great ways to make use of this daily (sometimes multiple times throughout the day) chore! This week when you find yourself at the kitchen sink, relieve stress by doing a few neck and shoulder stretches. While your hands are busy, lean your head from side to side holding you head as close to your shoulders as comfortably possible. Take your time. Pause for five to ten seconds per side. If you’d like to incorporate neck rolls, make sure you roll your head from shoulder to shoulder toward you chest. Do not roll your neck toward your back. For your shoulders, lift them toward your ears then relax. Do ten or twenty lifts. Forward and backward shoulder rolls will warm up the muscles. The area around the neck and shoulders bears alot of stress from day to day activity. This little exercise performed while those dishes are being cleaned will loosen up neglected muscles and relieve some of the stress.
