Housecleaning Workout Tip: Groceries
By Cindy | August 26, 2007
It’s time to make the weekly grocery run. When the car’s loaded and you return home, there’s no one there to help you out. I am the type of person that tries to grab as many bags as possible when I unload the car. How about you? However, I think this is a great chance to throw in a couple of bicep curls and tricep extensions. The weight of the groceries can be substantial. A great exercise for your arms is to make your groceries become your dumbbells.
Throughout the day, you use your biceps regularly when you pick up the little one, pick up things around the house, and do the laundry. The triceps are weaker due to less use. This exercise is great for both muscles, but to offset the use of the biceps, try to incorporate more trips using your triceps. You might not be able to carry all the groceries in one trip, but you’ll discover that you’re moving more and your triceps will feel the burn of a grocery run, giving the much used biceps a break while strengthening your triceps.
Grab a bag or two in each hand, , lift the bags up and over your head, keeping your elbows close to your ears. As you make your way to the house, complete a few repetitions. You’ve just completed a set of Triceps Extensions. You may alternate or do both hands at the same time. On your next trip, do a set of bicep curls by bringing your hands up to your chest and keeping your elbows tucked into your side. Continue as you make your way into the house. You’ve just completed a set of bicep curls. If this was a large grocery run, you can probably fit in two or three sets of each exercise. Have fun bringing those groceries into the house and working your arms!!!
