Housecleaning Workout Tip: Scrubbing the Toilet

By Cindy | September 24, 2007

housecleaning.jpgWe all have to clean a toilet or two. With two potty training kids in the house, I feel like I live in the bathroom some days. How can we possibly find a way to multi-task bathroom cleaning chores with working out. Since no one’s watching, you don’t have to worry about how strange you look. When you’re cleaning the toilet bowl, rim and lid, maintain a static squat. Even for thirty seconds, you’ll feel the tension and the pull of your lower back, gluteus maximus (butt), quadriceps (thigh), hamstring and calf muscles. To prevent injury, don’t let your knees extend beyond your toes.

What a great way to make a not-so-fun chore much more enjoyable!

I don’t care what people say about house cleaning as that is a workout itself. I had to help my wife the other day and now I know how she feels. Cleaning is tough and I believe I burned enough calories for the day to skip my workout.

Nice point of view. Cleaning can be indeed a good work-out. Not only cleaning the toilet can be turned into a work-out, also cleaning large windows, it’s good for your arms
