Housecleaning Workout Tip: Washing the Car

By Cindy | September 4, 2007

housecleaning.jpgWashing the car doesn’t require a unique movement to be a quality housecleaning workout. I propose washing the car with the kids. Get extra rags and buckets and have a great time washing the car and playing in the water. Are you interested in how many calories you can burn while washing the car? Plug in your weight and the time you spend on the car, mark washing car at Healthy Weight Forum Calorie Calculator, and be surprised.

Washing the car is a full body workout. Squats, arm circles, stretches (for the top of the roof reach) and full body aerobic activity are part of the deal. The children have fun playing in the water and/or helping. The whole gang spends time together outside, and you’re getting a natural burst of Vitamin D!!!

My car was in need of a wash and the heat wave finally broke. My two year old happily played in the bucket while my three year old helped me wash the car. I found that I spent a good thirty to forty minutes washing the outside of the car and removing all the stuff from the inside!!! I expended 178 calories based on the calorie calculator! We had a blast, it didn’t feel like exercise and we have a clean and shiny car.
