It’s Time for Goal Call Monday
By Cindy | January 21, 2008
Goal Call Monday is your opportunity to be focused, accountable, and motivated to make your goal of the week a success.
The Winner is…
Blaine of Run to Win gets to enjoy a $5.00 Gift Certificate to Amazon.com. Just to let you know, with Amazon’s MP3 Downloads, you can purchase full albums under $5.00 and singles start at $0.89. All songs are compatible with iTunes/iPods, too. I know how nice it is to have music while running. With 50 plus miles to go each week, I’m sure you’re a big fan of the iPod! Congratulations, Blaine! How deep was the snow this week and how far did you go?
Ready to Play? It’s simple:
1. Enter your goal in the comments below (anytime during the week).
2. Enter your results in next week’s Goal Call Monday.
Why You Want to Participate:
Focus on your top one-week goal in health, diet or exercise.
Accountability is shared here in the comments and by coming back with the results.
Motivation will be provided through your desire to achieve your goal and return with good news or the challenges you faced. You’ll receive encouragement from everyone here. As an extra motivation, I’ll enter anyone who participates in a weekly, random drawing to receive a surprise reward (different prizes given each week).
Goal Call from Last Week
Five contestants are up for the drawing this week. How did you do? Did you accomplish your goal, get stuck, have a funny story to tell?
- Blaine: Amazing 48 to 49 miles in a week. With the release of Marathons Don’t Have to Hurt, I’m amazed how you found the time. Were you able to up your distance into the mid-50s?
- Nap Warden: How did you adjust your workouts to avoid the back pain? Your Website Designs are impressive.
- Workout Mommy: Adding cycling classes to your day are in no way letting yourself down. The stretches will come. How did it go this week?
- Karen: Your package is on the way! Up for the running once again. Way to enjoy your walks.
- CFO: Terrific week. I love your comment, “I forgot how good it feels to workout!” You’re right. It does feel good. How did you incorporate Yoga into your week?
I look forward to hearing how you did with your goals. A surprise reward will go to one of you for commenting on the results (good or bad)! You have through Saturday to check in and report.

I ran in the low 50s mileage-wise – Publishing my book meant that I didn’t get to run on Thursday, so that meant two days off (I shoveled snow for 90 minutes on Monday instead of running.) I got my mileage back where it needed to be with 4 hours of running over the weekend – a 2 hour and 50 minute run through the snow and ice at Bradbury Mountain (about 18.5 miles) and then 75 minutes on the roads near my house (about 10 miles) yesterday. I also got a few miles of snowshoeing in yesterday afternoon before the football games. I put some screws into the bottom of my trail shoes, which gave me much better traction on the ice than I had had last week.
This week I’d like to crack 60 miles, since I will be using next week as a cutback week leading up to my first race of the season on Feb 3. I’m going to be too busy to get to the track for speed work, but I am going to try to get a few lunch time runs in and a few runs in the evening where I can get a few more miles in. If I can manage 30-35 miles during the week, then I should get into the 60s over the weekend without much trouble.
Thanks for the gift certificate, although I have to admit that its unlikely to be used for music. I’m paranoid about getting hit by a car again and try to minimize the distractions between me and traffic. I’m pretty comfortable inside my own head and enjoy running for the sake of running, which helps. I do read a lot, so I don’t doubt that it will be put to good use! Heheh.
well, Blaine certainly makes a tough act to follow!
I didn’t get to do 10 minutes of daily yoga but I did make myself go to a 90 minute hot yoga class–which was quite the experience!
this week, it is going to bed before midnight at least 3 times. I am a sleep deprived zombie!
Congratulations Blaine. Now you can spend some time reading instead of writing.
Great Job, Blaine. I offered the tip for music because I knew the gift certificate would cover the cost, but I love Amazon for the book selections at such a great price and many other things.
Workout Mommy, your goal is just as important! What is a hot yoga class? Sounds interesting. Great point about burning the midnight oil. I should make that my goal this week.
How did the week go for you Karen? I take it you’re sticking to the 4 days a week walking? Way to make it a habit.
My goal to get 4 desserts or less this past week was not successful. I enjoyed a slice of cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory. Ah, I just can’t pass it up. Then I made a German Chocolate cake for Ryan’s Birthday and indulged four too many times over the week.
My goal for this week is to complete 3 strength training sessions. I completed one tonight, 2 more to go!
Sorry, I don’t mean to be a tough act to follow…if it makes you feel any better, I have friends that still run in the 80-100 miles per week ranges…
Cindy, without your motivation, I wouldn’t have worked out at all the last three weeks! And I really had to squeeze both the cardio and the yoga in on Sunday, but I did it! I just couldn’t face posting here that I didn’t do it.
I’ll keep the same goal for this week: cardio once and yoga once.
Wow, the rest of you are amazing!
No problems, Blaine, Everyone has their own journey to “run.” It’s great to see the support and focus on each person’s individual goals. Those are what really matter.
CFO- Way to push forward and make time for yourself. That’s awesome. You’re amazing!
