One Year Goals initiated on January 1, 2008

HAPPY NEW YEAR’S Day!!! I like New Year’s Resolutions, and I use them interchangeably with the term goals. I find them to be one and the same, only New Year’s Resolutions are made one time out of the year! I think they are meant to be challenging yet provide direction for the actions that I plan to take this year. I always try to hit two to three big goals a year. This doesn’t mean this is the only time to create goals. I am always excited to try new things. This blog wasn’t even in my radar last January. The opportunity presented itself to develop this blog in June and it transformed the rest of my year. Goals/Resolutions that I made last year were to start running again (check), plant a mailbox flower garden (check) and lose weight (semi-check?)–that goal was not specific enough!

Here are mine for fitness and health in 2008:

1. I resolve to run at least 10 miles (walk 3) of the Country Music City Half Marathon in April 2008.

2. By the end of the year, I will incorporate four vegetables and three fruit servings into my family’s daily diet.

3. Lose 20lb (pre-pregnancy wt) by the first day of Spring (March 20th) and maintain for the rest of the year! I’ve joined a Spring into Weight Loss a WW Challenge on Roni’s WeightWatchen Boards.

For 12 weeks, the required Actions are:

  • Exercise four days a week for at least 30 minutes
  • Stay on program either flex or core (I’m not on Weight Watchers, so I’m using My Pyramid as my basis for food intake).
  • Check in daily
  • Post wt loss progress

I will be exercising at least 6 or 7 times per week through the end of March. Until I launch my business, my wife is doing all of the cooking so my diet is a bit dependent on her whims (she is in law school, so I cook almost every night outside of January and the Summer.)

I do not expect any wild changes in weight or body composition, but as always I will weigh myself every day so that I can tell if I am catching a cold before I actually get sick.
