When I developed my goals in the Music City Mom’s Summer Fitness Challenge, my number one goal for food was to replace shakes with smoothies. My summer weakness is a nice, creamy ice cream drink during when the sun blazing. Then, along came Smoothie King with an offer to test their website goals and sample their Smoothies. Smoothie King is new to our area, so I was excited to check out their store.

The Website is filled with great information about various products and the ability to find your own goal-oriented smoothie! I highly recommend checking out the site and learning how they create their smoothies. It’s quite enlightening. Understanding what ingredients they use and how they break a smoothie down is as neat of an experience as going to the store. They build the smoothie in a four step process:

  1. Find your Function: What is your goal? Trim Down, Build Up, Snack Right, Stay Healthy, Indulge, Get Energy, Treat the little ones (yes, they have Kid’s Kups!)
  2. Select your Smoothie: If it’s your first visit to a Smoothie King, the menu board can be overwhelming. I highly recommend checking out the website and going in with a plan. Otherwise, have fun perusing the menu board for about 20 minutes as you debate in your head which of the great flavors you want to try!
  3. Choose your size: The sizes are large. A small is 20 oz. The large is 40 oz. When I ordered the medium, I had not looked at the size of cups. I was shocked to receive a 32 oz.
  4. Add an Enhancer: Definitely optional, but nice to know you have a selection that includes Fiber, multi-vitamins, caffeine, antioxidants, muscle builders, stress relief and immunity builders. Again with caution, know what works for you and research the enhancements before indulging.

My first smoothie was the Passion Passport made with Passion Fruit, Banana, Papaya, Mango, Soy Protein, and Turbinado. Turbinado is raw sugar which you can request not be used for a Skinny version of the Smoothie. It’s function is for trimming down with 598 calories for a 32 oz. The 20 oz is 399 calories and 299 calories without the turbinado. It contains 0 g. of fat, 148 g. carbohydrates, and 3 g. protein. This smoothie replaced my lunch and mid day snack. It was more than enough to keep me full and energized. It also took me about 3 hours to finish.

My next experience was at a Smoothie King in the airport during travel. Be cautioned, that the Smoothie Kings attached to other smaller operations (i.e. with a ice cream and vendor type facility), there is a possibility that the Gift Card will not be accepted. The Oasis with an attached Smoothie King in the Cincinnati Airport did not accept our gift card.

I tried out the Angel Food and my husband had the Immunity Builder. The difference between the two smoothies was a slight change to a more gritty, less creamy texture in the Immunity Builder. The flavors stayed intact bananas, strawberries, soy protein, honey, and Turbinado. The Angel Food had an additional Non-fat milk blend which suited my tastes perfectly.

Which Smoothie is right for your summer goals?

Head over to Smoothie King and Find the Smoothie that’s right for you. Return, leave a comment with the Smoothie that’s right for you, or provide a link from your blog to enter the contest to win 1 of 4 $20.00 gift cards to Smoothie King. You have until the Tuesday, July 8, 2008 when the contest closes at Midnight Central Time.

I have a Smoothie King just a couple blocks from my house, and I *love* it. My favorite is the Angel Food Skinny. I also love that they have protein bars and Lesser Evil snacks. I only wish they opened earlier on weekends. Breakfast has come and gone by 9:00 a.m. for me!

Great giveaway!

Choosing a smoothie before arrival is very wise. It’s easy to be overtaken by their massive menu. These smoothies are easily customizable. My all time favorite is the Power Punch Plus with its two lines of scrumptious ingredients. Cheers to Smoothie King!

The Low-Carb Banana Smoothie seems like it is the smoothie for me. I love bananas so I think I would really enjoy this smoothie. Plus, it is low fat and promotes weight loss. And since I am trying to lose some weight it sounds like a drink I could enjoy without feeling guilty about having it. This is a great giveaway and I really hope I win. Thanks.
