Thermage Drops Inches Without the Work
By Cindy | February 24, 2008
I read an article in the newspaper a few weeks ago and it’s still bothering me. Fortunately, The Tennessean has it online:
Quick-fix cosmetic procedures tighten hips and thighs on the fly. Here’s why:
1. People willing to pay big bucks for a procedure that isn’t a guarantee.
Dr. Biesman and Dr. Leroy Young, a St. Louis plastic surgeon and member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery’s emerging trends task force, warn that thermage is not a magic wand. Young estimates that about one-third of people see marked improvements and two-thirds don’t….
Thermage is an expensive roll of the dice. The procedure — which is FDA-approved for the temporary improvement in appearance of cellulite — costs $2,500 to $4,000. Price depends on how large of an area people want to have treated.
2. What are the long term effects?
Thermage works by directing radiofrequency energy to the skin’s underlying tissue. The process heats that deep tissue, causing it to shrink and skin to tighten.
3. I’m sorry, but the excuse of no time is really one of no priorities. This procedure is going to wear off in a few month, and then the person is right back to where they were minus the money. Time is a premium for everyone, but exercise and healthy eating is doable and gives more energy to fulfill the tasks that come with a busy life. Necessary?! Is this necessary?!
“I’m career-driven. I don’t have a lot of time to work out,” she said. “I’m not a believer in surgery unless it’s absolutely necessary.”
4. Immediate results without the work. There is no effort made to be healthy and live a lifestyle that makes “skinny” worth it.
“I definitely feel like my clothes fit better,” Nepp said, adding that she is now able to get into some of the “skinny pants” that she keeps in the back of her closet.
I’m all for outsourcing to make life easier. Hiring a Personal Trainer will be more effective and long lasting as well as healthier for the mind and body. Money spent on a temporary change to the body with slim chances of the procedure working is down right crazy!
What do you think? Am I overreacting?

Mmmm…. well, desperate people with more money than sense will always spend their money on the Next New Thing… if it’s not diet pills, it’s cosmetic non-surgery, or those plastic wrap procedure to let you fit into a dress for one night…
What… ever… If the Very Rich and Not Too Bright want to spend $4,000, let ‘em…

I agree, that is just crazy to spend all that money that isn’t even permanent!

I agree. Well, if the procedure had 100% guaranteed influence then maybe, if the influence was for good maybe. As it is it is just crazy.

You’re not overreacting at all! The main reason we exercise is to become and stay healthy, which means that we will exercise for the rest of our lives, not just until we’re in skinny jeans! We exercise for quality of life!

I know, Lynn, people will spend their money on the craziest things. What I also found interesting about the article was that the example wasn’t what I’d consider the super rich. I found her to be more as the norm for up and coming, career oriented women. I have a high respect for women who are driven, but I’d hate to see them think that this would be the answer to their “time” crunch.
Wonderfully said, Hanlie, “We exercise for quality of life!”
