Week 11: Moving, A Workout in Itself, Sept. 16-22

By Cindy | September 28, 2007

I didn’t engage in traditional workouts this week. My mom visited and helped watch the little ones while I devoted time to preparing the house for a realtor walk through. The last half of the week was spent boxing books, stuff and more stuff and moving them out of the house. We removed large non-essential pieces of furniture to a local storage unit and made several trips up and down stairs putting boxes in the trailer for the transition. I can’t believe how much stuff we’ve collected in just two years. I really appreciate all the movers that took care of our military moves. They always had the house packed in one full day. I don’t know how they did it, now. Well, I do know that I haven’t missed out on any workout routines. I’ve been on my feet most days engaged with lots of lifting and movement. I’ve been quite tired by the end of the day.

Results of My First 5K

Saturday, I participated in my first 5K. I ran in the I Run To Party 5K in Nashville, TN. Here’s a map of the run if you’re interested.. With a bit of elevation(min.419 ft./max 544 ft.) and a start time of 4:30 PM, my friend and I were happy to finish the race under our goal of 40 minutes. I ran a 33:13, placed 21st in my age group, 74 among female runners and 210 overall!

It was challenging. We realized we didn’t quite train for the elevation differences and the heat of day, but 5k-bull.JPGwe were happy to participate and complete the race. We walked a few times but for small bursts and maintained a steady pace throughout the race. We were able to sprint the last .1 mile. It was awesome to cross the finished line.5k-finish.JPG

Beer was awaiting us after we cooled down. The costumes were fun. We beat the Running of the Bulls team. They ran a grocery cart the whole race dressed as a bull! The costumes were great. There were Run-A-Way Brides, a Man eaten by a shark, and a wide assortment of imaginative characters.

A 5K is an awesome achievement that I have not done yet but is something I really want to do this next year. I run every morning or night depending on the day but it is something I need to plan for. Great job and keep it up.
