Week 12: Still Packing, Sept. 23-Sept 29

By Cindy | October 4, 2007

I took this week off from running. My next goal is to start preparing for a 10K. I’ve started incorporating flexibility training into my fitness plan. Preparing our home for sale has taken priority, so my focused workouts have been more in the form of practical, hands-on housework.

Cardiovascular: Being slightly sore after the 5K, I did a light 30 minute Curves-style routine on Monday. On Saturday, we hiked as a family near a gorge. The rest of the week I was unable to get to the YMCA and spent most of my time moving more boxes.

Flexibility: Tuesday, I went to an Iron Pump Yoga class. When I go to Yoga classes (I’ve only tried a handful), I think that it can’t be that hard. I’m barely moving. I’m always wrong. I realize that my body has alot of work to do and that I neglect muscles which I thought I was focusing on. Doing strength training routines does not prepare my body for the demands of a flexibility routine. I’m determined to improve my flexibility and hope to continue attending the Yoga classes.

Strength Training: Our biggest move was the weight machine. I got my strength training in by carrying weights to the trailer and then into the storage unit. Most of the lifts were 30 to 40 pounds a piece. I know I was able to complete at least 2 full sets of squats with bicep style lifts in the moving of weights!

Nutrition: I failed terribly this week with food. I had two shakes and snacked often. I have no excuse, but laziness and stress. I didn’t plan healthy meals for the evenings and would throw something together at the last minute or just go out and get fast food.

Hi Blaine,

I’m looking to compete in one in January of February. I haven’t signed up for one yet. I’ve found a few training programs that I like. Most of them range from 8 weeks to 12 weeks.
