Week 14: Gardening and Rain, Mar. 30 - Apr. 5

By Cindy | April 9, 2008

asparagus.JPGBecause the weather was beautiful, we spent the weekend outdoors removing dead bushes, weeding and breaking ground. It’s hard work to prepare for a vegetable garden. Watching asparagus grow is amazing. This little plant is already 3 1/2 to 4 feet tall in 2 weeks! I had planned on running later in the week, but did not look ahead to the weather conditions. With some fierce storms, the end of the week was spent at home.

Sunday: 1 hour gardening with mallet and strength training routine.

Monday: 30 minutes gardening + Bonus Workout-Dancing With the Stars

Tuesday: Strength training routine

Wednesday: Rest

Thursday: Nothing

Friday: Rain- Strength training routine + Indoor playtime workout

Saturday: Rain - I really need to look at the forecast ahead of time. Nothing.

Nutritionally, I averaged: 1928 calories, 35% fat, 47% carbohydrates (w/ 26 g. fiber), 16% protein, 2% alcohol. I increased fiber, but am still shy of the 35g recommendation for women. I need to curb the fat intake more than anything else in this equation for the time being. My focus is to drop the % of fat (which should also help drop the carbs) that I’m consuming. With food, it is a challenge to find the balance that works.

I completed my measurements and official weigh in at the beginning of the month. I lost two pounds, dropped a total of 3 1/2 inches and 3% body fat reduction. Slow and steady. My size 10s are fit well and the size 8’s are a little snug, but I’m looking forward to that transition! Soon, I’ll be able to justify that brand new wardrobe!!! Motivation, baby.

I have three weeks before the Half Marathon. It’s full speed ahead and I hope to complete at least 18 miles over the course of next week. I slacked off on running due to poor planning and not balancing our engagements with my fitness.

Look at that cute asparagus! :) I do love asparagus. I’ve never tried growing it myself, oh, but I bet the homegrown variety tastes amazing!

Congratulations on losing the pounds, inches, and body fat! That’s super fabulous! I’m impressed! Yes, you’ll be ready for a new wardrobe in no time!

You must be doing something right to be making such great progress toward your body goals. Balancing training, motherhood, and other interests (and it is healthy to have OTHER interests!!!) is HARD work. I think you probably burn extra calories just thinking about how to make it all come together!

Susan & Hanlie, Growing asparagus has been easy, although it takes close to three years to get to reap the benefits on the table! I’m really looking forward to trying a few spears this year. Plus, it’s suppose to keep giving close to 20 years as long as I take good care of it! Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thank you MizFit, Brianna and MomWeightLoss! I’m short on the 18 this week, but it was nice to get out and hit the pavement. I’m a little nervous about the run, but it’s for fun so the excitement is building.

Would you like to come help me with my gardening? :)

Great job on keeping up with your nutritional info so well. I’m re-focusing on that in the coming weeks, and reading your blog inspires me a lot! Thank you.
