Week 17: Half-Marathon Goal Achieved! Apr. 20-26
By Cindy | April 29, 2008
The week was filled with nervousness as I looked over the Half-Marathon Training and fell short of the last few weeks of increased mileage. Training tapered off toward the end of the week to be well rested for the big day. The race was a blast and I’m so excited to check off achieving one of my goals for this year!
Sunday: Gardening and planting for 1 hour.
Monday: The neat thing about working with other trainers is we can try out our routines on each other. Plus, a trainer can push me beyond the limits that I tend to push myself! I completed 2.5 mile run on the treadmill for cardio and this intense strength training routine consisted of:
- 30 assisted pullups (3 different hand placements) with an elastic exercise band and trainer
- 15 Drop Squats (squat/drop to push up positions/return to squat/stand) holding 15lb dumbbells
- 15 jumps onto bench
- 15 30lb barbell curls
- 15 40lb barbell curls
- 20 40lb barbell shoulder presses facing incline bench
- 20 30lb barbell shoulder presses facing incline bench
- 30 abdominal leg raises on bench
- 15 30lb barbell chest press
- 15 50lb barbell chest press
Tuesday: Rest
Wednesday: 30 minutes on recumbent bike. 30 minute routine focused on abdominal and oblique muscles.
Thursday: Rest
Friday: Rest
Saturday: Completed the Country Music City Marathon in 2 hours, 9 minutes and 21 seconds!!!
I enjoy running, but I’m not all that crazy about running multiple events. I like variety and am going to explore different options over the next week to develop a new fitness journey. Ideas so far include kickboxing, a martial arts class, latin dancing or bodybuilding training. I’ll continue to run as a cardiovascular exercise, but my runs are going to be shorter (probably no more than 30 minutes) at higher intensities and mixed intervals.
Now that I am consistently working out, my focus is on diet. I know what a healthy diet looks like, but my actions are not equal to knowledge. It’s time to conquer the food war! I am on a mission to achieve the mental trigger for food that I found for exercise. Mental triggers are discussed in the newsletter! Check it out if you haven’t signed up yet! Yes, shameless plug!

Congrats on hitting your half-marathon goal! Keep making healthy choices!
Wow, what a workout. I want to be you when I grow up.
I can’t do an assisted pull up to save my life. Well, okay, I could maybe do it then with the adrenalin surge, but only if I had to pull myself up a cliff or something.
I think you’ve mastered the exercise world. I wish you the same good fortune on the food front.
Great job! Glad to see some people doing a good job with their workouts. Half marathon? Not this guy
Thank you.
Cammy, hopefully cliffs aren’t in your future, but a good place to start is with push ups!
Mike, who knows maybe in an alternate universe, you’ll strap on the running shoes and no one will stop you!
Congrats on reaching your goal! Maybe you’d like to mix up your workouts by training for a triathlon. Sounds like something right up your alley (though not mine, I’m not much of a swimmer!).
Hi Brianna,
I’ve thought about it for a split second and remembered that there was a swimming portion as well. Yep, no triathlons for me! The thought of water makes me cringe.
A fantastic read….very literate and informative. Many thanks….what theme is this you are using and also, where is your RSS button ?
