Week 25: Christmas and Year in Review, Dec. 23-29
By Cindy | January 5, 2008
The joy of toddlers on Christmas day is wonderful. On Christmas Eve, we like to open a present (pajamas) and head out to see Christmas lights with cookies and hot cocoa, but we had all come down with a slight cold, so we stayed indoors. Right before bed, the little ones left cookies out for Santa and a carrot for the reindeer. We asked if they wanted to leave milk out, but Asher replied, “No, no milk. He needs beer.” Hummm, I wonder where he got that idea? Before they went to bed, we snuggled up and read the about the Birth of Jesus (The Beginner’s Bible) and Twas’ The Night Before Christmas.
I only got one workout in this week. I completed a Curves-style circuit routine at the YMCA for 30 minutes. Overall, the month of December has been a maintenance month. I stalled on the 10K training, but plan to resume when January hits.
Looking back over the year, I made steady gains in establishing healthy habits. I have a long way to go on this journey, but with slow and steady progress, I am moving forward. The biggest change that I recognize is my attitude toward food. Here’s a list of the changes that occurred this year:
- 4% Body Fat Loss in 5 months
- 4 pounds lost
- 4 inches lost
- Completed a 5K in 33:13
- Signed up for another 5K for January
- Joined the YMCA
- Increased strength, endurance, duration and intensity in workouts
- Increased energy and stamina
- Incorporated fitness into household chores and playtime with the kiddos
- Shifted my attitude toward food (eat and work it off later). I can’t just work off the extra calories and fat, I must focus on balancing my diet.
- Completed my CPT (Personal Trainer) Certification
Overall, I changed my habits (a little at a time) and attitude over the last year. Within the last six months, my progress was slow but continuous. Now, I’m prepared to kick it up a notch. I’ve broken ground and I’ve made the commitment to act. When I created Go Workout Mom, I knew I had to face my mental and physical barriers. My changes really started to take effect two months into building this blog and facing my weekly reviews. I started to recognize my excuses for not working out. I constantly struggle with the priorities of life. I understand the value of “my time.” I decided that I want to live a healthy and fit lifestyle and I’m willing to stick it out even when I roll through the bad days! I’m excited to enter 2008 with a renewed passion for training and developing as a Workout Mom!!! How about you?
Have you looked over your past year? What were the positives? What did you do that improved your health or fitness?
