Week 3: On a Roll, Jan. 13-19

By Cindy | January 22, 2008

A pattern has emerged over the past two weeks. My workouts are more focused. I’m completing the 10K Training Program, but not as designated on the individual days. By doubling up the routines, I’m able to work in the 6 days of workouts into four. However, I feel quite tired by the time Saturday hits. In juggling the different workouts, the runs are ending up toward the end of the week. I’ll need to be more balanced in shifting the workouts around.

Sunday: I ran 5 miles. Slow, but steady and I felt great. I dropped Utah off as I decided to swing by the house. She didn’t want to have anything to do with my last mile.

Monday: I declared a rest day.

Tuesday: I did a few arm weights, but not too much. I started to work on some Pilates exercises while watching American Idol, but I kept getting side tracked by Utah wanting to play and the little ones jumping on me. We decided it was much better to play!

Wednesday: I knew I needed to get serious, so I completed 30 min on elliptical and 10 min. rowing at the Y. When we got home, I finished a 30 minute dumbbell and body weight resistance workout. Yes, I was watching American Idol again. It really is terrible during these audition weeks. I’m not sure why I torture myself with it. I do like to see if I can guess which ones are going to be picked during Hollywood week.

Thursday: All day cleaning. I was moving through the house and preparing it for visitors. Up and down stairs. Hauling laundry. Cleaning toys. Sweeping and mopping. It turned out to be a long day.

Friday: The morning was spent at the mall walking for 40 minutes with a friend. As a family, we went to the Y in the evening, the little ones got to play with their friends. I ran 3 miles on the treadmill (just under 30 minutes, with warm-up included). I jumped on a new machine called the Cardio Wave for another twenty minutes.

Saturday: I completed two miles around the neighborhood. It was cold with temperatures just over 20 degrees. I’m not a cold weather girl! Making myself go out there was a real test of my resolve. I’m so happy that I did it, now. While I was running this is what was going through my mind, “man it’s cold. Look at your breath. Keep going one step in front of the other. You’re going to do this. It’s not even snowing. No ice. There’s no excuse to not finish.” I finished the run in 18 minutes. Maybe I should run in the cold more often.

This Saturday is the Nashville Zoo Run 5K. It’s pretty exciting. We have five moms participating from our MOMS Club. We also celebrated Ryan’s 30th birthday. German food, beer, and chocolate cake pretty much sum up my food intake for the week. Yep, his birthday cake was made on Wednesday and is still in the kitchen. As I’ve been tapering down on the rest of my food consumption, I was able to maintain without seeing a gain.

You had a great week of exercise! I want to start running because it is the one thing that sort of scares me. Free weight–bring ‘em on! Any cardio machine or aerobics video I can handle, but running has always been sore point with me. I guess growing up with uncontrolled asthma and being forced to run the mile in school put a bad taste in my mouth. But my hubby tells me that that what I do on the elliptical isn’t much different than running, so I bought a pair of running shoes a couple of months ago. I have yet to put them on. I vow to once it starts to warm up here. I am not a cold weather girl, either, and when it’s so cold that it hurts to breathe, I am so indoors!

Anyway, keep up the great work!!

Thanks Mary. As long as the weather holds out, the run should be lots of fun.
