What is a Personal Contract?
By Cindy | July 27, 2007
In the Navy, I completed Personnel Qualification Standards (PQS) to demonstrate my proficiency in driving a ship, running an engineering plant, handling ammunition and almost any aspect of military performance. When Little Man and Little Monkey came along, I wasn’t given the requirements or questions on how to raise them for the next 18 years. How am I to shape the future of these precious little ones? Where’s my PQS for child-rearing? As a mother, I faced a new full-time job with the same vigor and expectations faced in the work force, but there isn’t a simple list of questions to answer. Everyday brings new challenges. I neglected my physical well-being to focus on their well-being. I realized that my physical well-being is an integral aspect of my children’s development. Through my example, I provide my children important tools to living a healthy lifestyle.
The Personal Contract is a written document to make yourself accountable to You. A standard to strive for your personal improvement. Placed in a predominant spot, the contract is a daily reminder of what needs to be accomplished.
Here is My Personal Contract
I’ve provided a blank form if you desire to create your own contract. You will need Adobe Reader to access the form. You may download the reader from Adobe Make a copy and take action. Read it daily. Focus on the goals. Over time, you’ll be happy to find that you are being accountable to yourself.
You also demonstrate to your children how to write goals to achieve results. Children are sponges and even at a young age, they learn by example. Share your experiences with them. You’ll be surprised what connections and lessons they will learn. Plus, you’ll have a ready champion or extra “Mom, you said…” to move you along in your journey.
