Which Beijing 2008 Olympic Mom are you cheering on to win gold?
By Cindy | August 7, 2008
After reading an article in Fitness about two moms competing in the Olympics, I started to wonder how many more were out there? I was so excited to find several moms getting ready to compete in the Beijing 2008 Olympics. The Olympics bring about a sense of amazement and joy in our house. With hardwork, some genetic predispositions, and determination, athletes strive for a dream they’ve held for many years. It’s neat to watch dreams come true and see great sportsmanship across the globe.
I’ll be an internet viewer. How about you? NBC has really kicked it into gear and will have more than you can imagine in regards to the actual competitions. Watching the events without all the commercials and news commentary hype before and after and on our own time is awesome. Gotta love the internet!
Here’s what I found about the moms that are pursuing their dreams!!!
NBC has a wonderful slide show of moms with their children from the U.S. as well as Germany, Japan, and the Netherlands: Olympic Mothers.
This slideshow has 16 moms from the U.S. ready to take on their competitors and when they had their children: U. S. Olympic Moms.

- Melanie Roach: Weightlifter ***If you are still doubting what weights will do to you, then check her out! This woman is beautiful and she’s gotta be lifting some heavy weight to be here!***
*I hope I didn’t miss any moms competing. If you know of one not on the list, please share.*
I can’t wait to see Melanie in action as well as Robyn Aw Mo-Santos. I’m a huge volleyball fan. Although I must admit, I’m most excited about the beach volleyball. Go Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor!!! Sorry, the sports fan in me coming out.

I’m rooting for all of them, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be Magdalena Lewy Boulet because I’m training for a marathon now and just generally love running. A close second would be Valerie Gotay because Judo is just so cool!
ALL OF THEM!!!! I have my front seat for the opening ceremonies this evening and love that I can watch it on my pc while at work!!!
Very true. It’s neat to see so many moms.
I just saw Melanie this morning and all I can say is WOW! She is awesome!!

Ok so I caught Melanie Roach and while she didn’t get a medal I was so proud of her!!!! she ROCKS!!! I don’t know HOW she lifted those weights but wow.. amazing!!!

I;m waiting to see if Davenport manage to get a medal
I am all for Dara Torres! She is so amazing and I’m always excited to watch her swimming events. I hope to be in the same great shape that she’s in when I’m 40+ years old. She’s phenomenal and definitely reminds us that you can be in great shape at any age, even after having children.
When is Dara Torres going to compete ?
